Matthew Matt James is a North Carolina native born on 5 December 1991. He is a mixed-race child of Manny James and Patty James. The mother of Manny James was caucasian while his father was Nigerian. He graduated in 2010 of Sanderson High School. In 2015, James earned the Bachelor of Economics degree from Wake Forest University. James' fame kick-started when he filmed his debut as a reality show star during The Bachelorette. He was selected in 2020 to become the season's 25th bachelor on The Bachelor, becoming the first African American lead. The season premiered in 2021. James was the ideal candidate for the job, as he is well-rounded tall, athletic and has a good sense of humor. Rachael Krkconnell was picked as his partner for the season. He teamed up with the popular professional dancer Arnold in 2021 to compete in season 30 of Dancing with the Stars. James along with Arnold finished 12th place.
